Oh yes, the song is about the longing of a woman for her sailor, who is far away and has been for a while.

The song was written by a lady - Jane Finlayson, for her sailor from another of the Scottish islands. They DID later get married.

Another Scottish Gaelic song which would be appropriate is Cailinn Mo Ruin-sa. It's written from the point of view of the man returning to his love. It could be worked with the Fear a Bhata as an answer song of sorts. The Second song is sung to a happier tune than Fear a Bhata. However Fear a Bhata is quite haunting as a tune.
