Vishten/Celtitude are pretty good. Saw them at ECMA a couple years ago.

Rawlins Cross was formed in St. John's (in fact, it's named after an intersection just off Bannerman Park). But like many groups, they moved their headquarters to Halifax because it's so much easier to tour out of there; they also picked up several Nova Scotian musicians along the way. For Newfoundlanders it was a little weird to hear about "Halifax band Rawlins Cross" because that's a little like a band called Times Square who come from Philadelphia!
