I found a team [Cricket I think] called the Perth Redbacks on an Australian search engine called Web Wombat. In 1996 or thereabouts, they had two players with the surname Fido on their team. Might be an idea to try contacting them for info. It's certainly not a common surname, so there can't be too many around.
