"If I ever go acrost the sea to England
And maybe at the closing of the day
We sing a turn or two down in some alehouse
The law would have to come haul me away.

The music comes across the world from all lands
It's carried by the travelers where e're they go
But the polititions seek to still the masses
For music is a language they don't know.

They passed a law that makes a crime of singing
They say our instruments we cannot play
But since music didn't come from politicians,
It's not a right that they can take away.

And if there is a home in there hereafter
A Beulah land that lies beyond the skies
I'll take my place and sing with all the angels
In that land where politicians seldom rise!
