If I remember well there is also a good campsite just outside Cheticamp (a good musical town too) on the northwest coast of Cape Breton which is close to the start of the Cabot Trail.

If you're coming via Digby, I could also recommend a trip down to Briar Island at the end of Digby neck. You'll have to negotiate two very short car ferries but it is worth it. The scallops in Digby are the best I have tasted too.
