I wasn't even old enough to date! Danny lived around the block from me. He was almost 3 years older, & 2 grades ahead of me. I might have been all of 13 years old when Danny gave me my first kiss. When I was about 16, Danny went to "South Korea" where he flew missions in Viet Nam. We wrote constantly, I sent him fudge (which melted like crazy) & my to sin for cookies & other goodies & he sent me little doo dads like hankies & souvenirs from "South Korea." Then finally when he was short by about 3 weeks, he flew one more mission & never came home. Danny was the one who really loved me. I got married, a couple of years later--his idea cause he determined that if we got married before he went into the service, he'd get more $$. Ironic thing is, that while he was in the Army, we went over to South Korea! Beautiful country, beautiful people, marvelous culture! Too bad he didn't love me. We divorced the year John Lennon was shot & I have never remarried. I guess that Danny was the real love of my life. Sad, huh? And yes, I have written a couple of Bluegrass songs--only Bluegrass can appropriately convey the subject matter--about Danny, who loved me, & the one I married who didn't really love me.
