It was in Seaside, California. Her name was Reneé, but for some reason it was always prounounced REE-nee. She was eight years old and lived next door. I may have been as old as six. She was smart, a world traveler (she had seen Crater Lake!) and was the prettiest girl I ever had met. It was entirely a one-sided thing, after all, she was so much older. But I thought she was the greatest!
