Thread Name: BS: Any catters in Seychelles
Subject: RE: BS: Any catters in Seychelles
I was there in 86 making a movie "West of Paradise" staring Art Mallik and when I returned I was telling my Mother in Law about the Islands. Now, after 17 years, she wants to go there but she feels she is too old to go on her own, she is 87, so she has asked Lorna and myself to accompany her.
So now you know why I want to meet catters over there. I'd rather be playing music than sitting in the hot sun with two old buggers like Lorna and her mother.
When I was last there the main export was copra (Something from coconuts) and tortoise shell artifacts which are banned in most countries now because of the shortage of turtles. Pre 1984 there was no airport in the islands and so tourists sailed there by schooner from Kenya. It seems now the tourist industry has taken off mostly with honeymooners.
Their music in 86 was their own kind of Cajun style obviously influenced be the British, French, Indian and African.
Trad dance was "The Saga" done by both sexes, very colourful and melodic with the main beat played on a triangle
Cheers Bill
