A couple I've seen that might fit the bill; "My First Mister", made by Christine Lahty (kind of a "Life as A House", with a twist-- goth kid gets a job in a men's clothing store). Also liked "Vatel" very much, about a steward on an estate visited by Louis XIV. Saw "About Schmidt" recently; THAT was funny/dark, but it'll be awhile before it's out on video. "One Hour Photo" is just dark; I was impressed they didn't take the low road and just make another thriller, but did so much more with the story. How about "The Usual Suspects"? I'd say dark/funny applies. And I guess "Snatch" and "Lock Stock and Three Smoking Barrels" would work. There's another about a couple of Ulster guys who take over a slaes job selling hair pieces; I think it's "An Everlasting Piece" or something like that; got a larf out of that 'un.
