Subject: Review: History of country, UK TV
There was a programme on BBC2 last night (7-8pm)which was the first in a series about the history of country music. It concentrated on the likes of the Carter Family, Louvin Brothers, Stanley Brothers, Jimmy Rodgers, Bill Monroe etc.and had loads of archive film clips and interviews with those still alive as well as comments from the likes of Ricky skaggs, Emmylou Harris and Willie Nelson. It even went into such details as Maybelle Carter's guitar technique and the use of the mandolin and banjo in bluegrass.

I thought that it was very informative and just like an old time, pre-dumming down BBC documentary which is refreshing and what was even more amazing was that it was broadcast at peak time on Saturday evening.

I'll be watching the next episode with interest.
