Some very good poems about barbed wire in war and WWI in general may be found in the works of Robert W. Service in his book "Rhymes of a Red Cross Man". He was a litter bearer and ambulance driver in France. I believe that his works can be found at Project Geutenburg. Do a Google and you'll find the site.
