I believe the song originated with R.H. Cornelius
He had (I believe) a publishing house in texas in the 20's
and may have prior to that been an immigrant from Wales
or Cornwall, and a miner. The Carter family was well known
for singing traditional songs or ones that originated
by other song writers, but copy righting them as if
they were theri own.
