BillD, Thanks for the search--I haven't done one for a while on this subject. That fellow's answer doesn't really make a lot of sense. It's just a player, it's not a copier, not trying to crack anyone's code. I suppose it means that Sony or someone still has the patent on the technology involved. I have at least one DVD player on the computer, but it's on a different platform from the one I usually use. (Actually, there are a couple of competing DVD softwares that HP installed. They have made that poor stupid ME program crash more than once). I can't see any point in buying another one, I can just reboot the computer. The other programs came bundled so I can't move a copy over to the other side; it wouldn't be in the registry, blah blah blah. . .what with all of the stuff that all of these free CD players will do, I was just crossing my fingers that they might be ready to play DVDs now also. But I'll just keep turning it off and running DVD's on the ME side. The price is right!
