I heard the Weavers version first (on Traveling On with the Weavers? been a LONG time) and some years later was rather surprised to hear Allan Block and Art Rosenbaum doing a song called "Deadheads and Suckers" which, they explained, came from the Bogtrotters (of Galax VA) with much the same tune and words. As the preacher wrote, indeed there is nothing new, under the sun.
