Thread Name: Lyr Req: Just a Dream (Bert Jansch
Subject: Lyr Add: JUST A DREAM (Bert Jansch)
This is transcribed from Bert Jansch's CD "When the Circus Comes to Town" – nice song but a lesson in elocution it's not, and there may be some errors here.

JUST A DREAM
(Jansch)

Walking along on a summer day,
When I met a man, going the other way,
Said what happened to you my friend,
How do you do today?
He looked so pale, his face was drawn,
He said my friend I wish I'd never been born,
I'm a looking for my long lost soul,
I had it only yesterday.
Now there was a time, when I could build a ship,
I'd build it proud and strong,
On the seven seas it would sail along,
And now it's only – just a dream.

I met a woman on the same highway,
I looked in her eye but she turned away,
I said what happened to you my friend,
How do you do today?
She said in this land there's a place for me,
A paradise and the water comes free,
Or is it just a crazy dream
That's floating outside my head.
Now there was a time, we would stand and fight,
Instead of turning,
Let our voices sing, proud in harmony,
And now it's only – just a dream.

Hand in hand came a boy and girl,
This is the tune, she sang a song,
I said what happened to you my friend,
How do you do today?
Well we don't know what we should learn,
What books to keep, what books to burn,
What a funny old world this is,
It's changing from day to day.
And there was a time,
When it was right and wrong,
It was black and white,
It was easier, to get along,
Now it's only – just a dream.
