Dear guest - the battle of Verdun was fought between the French and the Germans, beginning on 21 February, 1916, and ending in December, 1916, as the French poilu recaptured the last forts taken by the Germans in their earlier assaults. The French lost half a million men, the Germans, around 400,000. The French and German soldiers suffered constant bombardments - as many as 40 million artillery rounds had been fired - along with frequent attacks with poisonous gas. A frightful spectacle.
