Yup, that's the crux of the matter, alright. "We Are Right!"
I read a psychology book once about a character type called the "Right Man".
He is a guy who cannot tolerate disagreement from anyone on anything. If you disagree with him, you are not just his "enemy", you are BAD, BAD, BAD! Evil, in fact. He gets really mad when things don't go his way. He is inclined to yell, threaten, use violence, blackmail, slander, lies, illegal acts, and ultimately even to commit murder when things don't go his way.
He's very determined and focused, and that makes him highly effective.
He figures he is right and most other people are wrong...unless they happen to agree with everything he says and share all his values and never question them in any way. He also figures he's the smartest guy around, without question. He sees himself surrounded by idiots and weaklings.
He demands absolute loyalty from family members and people who work for him.
He tends to terrorize his family, and usually his neighbours too, not to mention his employees.
He is impatient and short-tempered.
He holds grudges over the smallest matters, and never forgets a perceived slight (whether or not it was intentional).
He thinks life is a competitive battle for survival, and only the strong shall prevail. He is proud to number himself among the strong. He despises the weak, the gentle, those inclined to compromise. They are "losers" in his book, and for this guy there is simply nothing worse you can be than...a loser.
He plays to win, and only to win. Winning is everything. His strategy is to attack, attack, attack until he is totally victorious over his "enemies" and they are not just beaten, but completely humiliated, ruined, and crushed.
He is highly unlikely to have a successful marriage, unless his partner is a masochist.
All of the above pretty accuratelu describes Karl Rove except for the "murder" part...I am not aware that he has personally murdered anyone in the physical sense...he has destroyed a great many people in the career sense.
Karl Rove is the key political advisor to George Bush, and it is upon his advice that Bush has made virtually every political move from large to small since well before he was elected governor of Texas. Most of those moves have been very successful.
Read all about it in "Bush's Brain - How Karl Rove Made George Bush Presidential" (now a bestselling book in North America)
