"Ethnic cleansing" also includes expulsion of populations - for example what happened to the Palestinians back in 1948, which wasn't genocide as such.

It might have been coined as a euphemism, but I think now, after Bosnia especially, for most people it conveys the sense of something pretty ugly and despicable.

Probably better than "population exchange" which was widely used at one time for that kind of thing. A ot if people used to buy the notion that this was somehow relatively benign.
