Greg, in damp southeast Alaska, slugs are an ever-present garden pest. When my rhubarb was almost mowed to the ground, I finally bought a liter of the cheapest beer I could find (I had the man put it in a brown bag so people wouldn't think that's what I was drinking!) then hollowed a spot in the bed of rhubarb and buried a large plastic mug to its rim. Filled it with beer. Pretty amazing. I had to empty the cup every other day- it absolutely filled with the slimers. One liter of beer lasted most of the growing season. And the rhubarb bounced back.
