I can see why you start thinking along these lines, Don. Many of us see a near complete lack of convincing, or at least consistent, reasons given for this war. Therefore, many try to fill this void with theories. However, I am not convinced by the ideas of the links. My main reason is:

In many wars in history, the political leaders have in their public speeches invoked God (or whoever else). More often than not God has been on all sides, according to their perceptions or convictions. I've learned to mistrust the religious motive as prominent as it may have been in the speeches. Most times, it was propaganda which they may even have believed themselves, but their actual daily deeds were not much influenced by religion.

I can't offer a better explanation but I don't believe in religion to be more than a peripheral factor.
