I was trying to find L. Sprague De Camp's definition of a cult and couldn't so have to rely on the (overdrawn) memory banks-- when a person joins and becomes deeply involved in a religion other than the one practiced by his family of origin, he is said to have joined a CULT, but a good Catholic (for instance) who is called to become a priest is not thought to have done anything strange.
