A friend of mine is the ship naturalist on a cruise ship that sails from Seattle to Alaska each summer, via the inland passage between Vancouver's Island and the mainland.
Tourist: What is the elevation in this passage?

Pretty simple question and answer, but be prepared to answer it more than once! And you might also want to brush up on giving directions to the bathroom and coke machine. ;-)
Other than that, go for it! One of the best captains I knew of a boat that size was Harry MacNamee, with the National Park Service in New York Harbor, who finally retired when he was 88. You have lots of time to go yet, Kendall!
