This just in from the Folk Alliance:

Legacy Life Membership begins!

Art Thieme and Utah Phillips are first nominees.

Thanks to a suggestion Joel Mabus made at the Membership Meeting in
Nashville, our Legacy Life Membership program has begun.

A Legacy Life Membership is a gift Life Membership in the Folk Alliance. Legacy Life Members are nominated by an individual or group of Folk Alliance members, as a way of honoring them. It's a chance for Folk Alliance members to think about who we want to bring in to the organization, and who we want to say thanks to. And a way to honor some of our personal heroes.

A beginning donation of $50 made by a Folk Alliance member in the name of the person they would like to honor will start the ball rolling. We'll announce the names, and anyone else can contribute towards reaching the $1,000 needed for the membership. Additional contributions can be made in amounts of $20 to $100 to reach the goal.

We'll have 10 nominees at a time so that each potential Legacy member gets the concentrated efforts he/she deserve to ensure the success of each membership.

We're proud to announce our first two nominees. Legacy Life Memberships have been started for Art Thieme and Utah Phillips. You can help fulfill these memberships by sending your donation earmarked for one or the other (or both!) of them to the Folk Alliance office, 962 Wayne Ave. Suite 902, Silver Spring, MD 20910. Credit card payments are also accepted.

And you can start your own nomination by sending in the $50 beginning
donation in your honorees name.

More details on the program can be found in the March/April Folk Alliance newsletter (on its way to you now), and shortly will be posted on our website (www.folk.org). We look forward to this roster becoming a growing and tangible expression of who we honor and what folk music and folk dance are.
