These are just some place I found-- Galway--Monroe's (especially set dance night-Tuesday and Crane's (allows you to play along) Westport--Malloy's was crowded, but Conway's up the street had a good group. Donegal--several places may have trad music, but you have to ask. For friendliness and feeling of total pub participation, try the Scotchman's. Allows you to play along. Ennis--Cruises' was the best place to consistently get trad music played on something other than a keyboard. Groups with tapes or CD play. Lisdoonvarna-- a red pub in middle of town with "Live Music" sign, friendly, allows you to play along. I found that you have to check around; country/western and disco were popular. Music doesn't start before about 9:30 or 10:00, give you plenty of time to find a good seat and your first pint. The noise can be a distraction.
