Back in the 60s I remember hearing an album entitled "Up in the Air." Not sure of the singer, maybe Tom Lehrer... it had his irreverant attitude. It was a collection of songs, some parodies, about the Air Force and flying in general.
One I've been trying to remember was an ode to the Gooney Bird, the DC-3, C-47, call her what you will. The chorus was:
They patched her up with chewing gum,
With paper clips and strings;
And still she flies, she never dies,
Methuselah with wings.
Anybody know the verses?
