A neighbor bought one of those Honey-Baked hams, spiral cut, and it was very nice (though everyone asked her why she bought such an expensive one--she told everyone that it was her gift to them for Easter). My ex brought boiled/herbed new red potatoes, I brought my homemade rolls (with garlic and oregano and olive oil in the dough), someone else brought apple and cherry pies, one of the host's daughters brought the green beans and bacon. It wasn't as big a meal as thanksgiving or yule. But it was a nice day, and the host's 14-month-old grandson toddled around and found the conspicuous eggs that his cousin and my son "hid" for him. Meanwhile, my daughter and another cousin hid the eggs for my son and the first cousin. . . gets confusing. Most of the kids had a good time most of the time.

After I left, my 14-year-old daughter pulled a little child-care duty with the toddler, and discovered the absolute joy of how it feels when that little one falls asleep in your lap. It sounded like she was reluctant to put him down on a bed to sleep. I know the feeling--and not too long ago she was the baby in my lap!
