Couldn't have been Iranian, BB, the term did not even exist in 303; neither was he a Turk, as the Turks only arrived in the 5th and 6th centuries AD; Ionian perhaps, or even Roman, mixed probably with local blood, Phoenician or Persian.
But it doesn't matter, does it? He is a symbol, it is not what he was, but what he represents for the English that matters. And though not English myself, I celebrate him with the English AS WELL AS within my own culture (I am named after him after all).
I just wish the English would do more to celebrate him themselves
