Thread Name: PEL: Doc Roew gets through to Minister !!!
Subject: RE: PEL: Doc Roew gets through to Minister !!!
Don't know which of the PEL threads to post this to but as this one is current and short....
From Jazz UK,March/April 2003 a free listings mag that gets spread around clubs etc:
The licencing bill row turned nastier in January when Culture Secretary Kim Howells accused the Musicians Union of running a 'pernicious, lying campaign'.
At a press conference prior to January's demonstration in Parliament Square, licencing expert Chris Hepher, one of many lawyers backing the protest campaign was outraged at the accusation that the protesters were lying. 'It is an affront to over 20 years of my experience as a licencing lawyer', he said......Hamish Birchall, the Union's consultant on the issue said to Jazz UK: "Tell the readers not to put off action any longer. It is still worth writing to their MPs and to join the petition at However much the Minister goes on about uniform tariffs and greater fairness it will still be a tax on live performance that big-screen TV won't have to bear and it remains totally unfair".

I know there's nothing new here but just include it to show it is not just folk clubs, jazz is also involved in the campaign.
