He did his sorting out by bloodline, not by belief. Centuries of Pogrom and massacre by the Cossacks and the peasants of Russia and the Ukraine, the Khmelnitski atrocities against the Polish Jews when 6000 Jews were slaughtered, in none of these occasions did the murderers ask if the Jews they were killing were pious, reformed or non-believers.
