I'd shoot for the southwest in particular...like Joe said..Chimayo..people do make religious pilgramages there..within a couple more hours drive (I think..check it out) are the Taos Pueblo and Angel Fire, which besides being a great natural site, is I think the first Vietnam Veteran memorial, and is certainly a pilgramage site for veterans. Of course, there is Reno..the Morman Temple...Native American sites...in California the string of missons..the Alamo.. check out mileages if you are coming from Europe...the miles between these places can be bigger than you realze from a map...mg
