The author found himself troubled by the realization that he'd never been to any of America's "iconic places." Mt. Rushmore , for instance. Yellowstone Park. Kitty Hawk . The Alamo . Niagara Falls. Appomattox. And so he set out on thoughtful pilgrimages to fifteen of them (including the six I've listed).
