When I listen to the Anthology, I can't help but think about the mind that put the thing together. Harry Smith was a truly remarkable person. He (almost single-handedly) rescued a chapter of American art and history from the scrap heap. No one was paying attention to that type of music in the 1950s . . . except Harry. It's hard to believe that a guy nosing around used record stores could have put together such an incredible study of rural American music.
Has anyone seen any of the movies he made?
