I remember large all-girl orchestras from the 1940s. They got quite a bit of play back then. Don't shoot, girls! My language is from that time period as well.
Freddy Shafer(sp?) and his all-girl orchestra- yes, a man as leader. Then there was the Hour of Charm orchestra, don't remember the leader.
