Combine that with his money and celebrity, and it is easy to see that he has gotten away with something pretty bad, IMO.

I'm sure Garry Glitter and Jonathan King (and possibly others) would tell you that is not the case. I'm pretty well convinced that if Townsend had not been telling the truth, the police would have evidence to support that and would have prosecuted.
