Subject: RE: Reload Button
OK, I think I see the problem, Anna. I'm guessing you're using Microsoft Internet Explorer 5 (MSIE) - am I right? I started to occasionally get those same error messages after I switched to MSIE 5 (but Netscape 4.5 is just about the same). First, let me make one very strong suggestion for everydody:
If you have just posted a message and something goes wrong and you don't go back to the Forum Menu, DON'T hit the "reload" button on your browser.
The conservative, safe thing to do is to get back to the screen with the message you were typing, and highlight and copy [CTRL-C] the message you had been posting. then click on one of the Forum Home links on the page to take you back to the Forum Home page - then check the thread to see if your message posted. If it didn't, paste it [CTRL-V] into the "Reply to thread" box and click once on "submit message." Try to avoid using any browser controls when you post messaqges - just use the links Max gave us, and you'll be much less likely to have problems.

If you're just reading a thread and not posting, you can be a little more lax. I haven't had much success using that "repost from data" selection that sometimes comes up when I use the "refresh" button - but then I don't like using the "refresh" button, either. I think that message comes up with the "back" button at times, too - it's a new irritant that came with MSIE 5, and I highly dislike it - I don't think it's the 'Cat's fault at all. Like I say, it's best to use what Max has given us. If you can't get to the forum home page from a thread, maybe it's best to go all the way back to the Mudcat Home page, www.mudcat.org, and then click on the forum link from there.
Am I making sense? In getting a little too detailed in my explanation, I may have obscured my main point: Use the links Max gave us, and generally avoid using the controls on your browser when you want to navigate the 'Cat.
'Nuff said.
