Thread Name: Lyr Req: 'What's the matter with you today and...'
Subject: Words please:
A while ago now, I heard Barbara Dickson sing a song that began:
What's the matter with you today and where's your darlin' Jimmy? The soldier boys have taken him and now he's far, far from me. Last Sunday he went into town with those red-coated fellows, And now he's gone to take the Book so now we've lost Jimmy.
When Jimmy talks about the war, it's worse than death to hear him. I have to hide me face from him although I cannot bear it. A brigadier or a grenadier he said they're sure to make him, And then he bids me not to cry and tells me not forsake him.
There is more, but I heard this once and wondered if any might know it or where the words could be found. Thanks.
