Accelerator cable broke on my Hillman Imp, just in the engine compartment. This was about 3.30 a.m. with 150 miles still to go.

One of the wife's hairgrips through the moving thingy and spliced into the cable did the trick. But there was alot of slack and we couldn't do more than 40 on the motorway.
