Rush is following a tradition in radio, that of self-appointed pundits of the Right such as Father Divine, Gerald LK Smith, Reverend Billy Hargis, Bishop Sheen and others. These "Rush type" folks are benighted propagandists and dogmatists who are not interested in contrary ideas to their political agenda. You can't argue with them on their programs if you don't agree with them because they will cut you off and make fun of you. But if you are interested in witnessing the seeds of facism in the US, there it is.

If you inflame the public you attract listeners. Rush has said that he considers that he is in "show business" and is an entertainer. He wants to piss you off. That's what he's in business to do.

The best thing is to ignore him and his ilk. They don't have the real facts on anything and can be dismissed as valueless. The best way to deal with this kind of programming is not to support it or be like Michener who used to listen to it to strengthen his own counter convictions.

If you want the facts, don't go there. They are the political schoolyard bullies.
