I'm surprised his move from acoustic to electric guitar wasn't preceded by a shift in musical interest to a different repertoire, more rock or pop oriented.

Don't be surprised if he soon quits playing "Greensleeves" and moves on to selections that might sound more alien and less musical to your ears. You may find yourself looking back at *this* phase with nostalgia!

Maybe I'm wrong; in fact, I hope I am! Moving from acoustic to electric doesn't necessarily mean *anything.* He could be on his way to true virtuosity, exploring all aspects of his intrument. Or, maybe he just wants to be as loud and punkish as possible -- remains to be seen.
