Damn! I've never even seen that Tom Jones album. I've got to go and visit Johhny Death and see if he's got it. He has a collection of at least 75,000 vinyl albums, and it's increasing all the time.

Ah yes, the fabled Dylan/Shatner sessions. Well, yes, tempers got badly frayed. Some say it was mutual admiration that led to the altercation. Some say it was mutual contempt. Some say it was too much expensive Scotch whiskey (from Dylan's private stash).

At any rate, Dylan, though being a small man, is wiry and tough. Apparently he wrestled Shatner to the studio floor and bounced his head off the linoleum a couple of times. (Dylan has had prior experience with this technique, having practiced it years ago on A.J.Weberman after Weberman was caught by Sara Dylan going through their garbage. Weberman is also bigger than Dylan, but he got trounced by his idol.) Studio personnel then separated them. Shatner was heard to say that he had not resorted to his starship captain karate moves out of respect for Dylan's place in popular music. "I would have destroyed him if I'd let loose," Bill said. "The only thing worse that I can imagine the world losing is me."

Dylan said something too, but it was less polite than that...

Various legal threats and counterthreats were then issued, but the matter was allowed to quietly die after Shatner agreed that the existing outtakes would be destroyed.

Dark rumours persist, however, that 3 tapes survived, spirited out by a studio technician. If found, they would be worth their weight in just about anything at this point. I'd give anything for one of them, except a weekend with Winona Ryder...and I don't have that anyway, so it's a moot point.
