A little known, obscure factoid!

In the mid to late fifties, Shatner was considered THE figure-head of the Folk Movement. He was a prolific songwriter, penning such great songs as "We Are The Ones Who Are" and the politically scathing lampoon called "Women Who Spit".

Burl Ives once called him "The man upon whom the future of Folk Music resides". Pete Seeger opened for Shatner at the infamous Bloomer, Arkansas Folk Festival of 1959.

As an added note, in 1958, Shatner brought a young Welshman to America and introduced him to the Folkies and took him into the studio. The Welshman was an incredible banjo picker and was a hammered dulcimer whiz. From these sessions came the "Front Porch Pickin'" LP by Thomas Jones, with Shatner singing harmony and playing the hurdy-gurdy.

Five years later, the young Welshman became a hot sex-symbol named Tom Jones, singing "What's New, Pussycat?"

Inexplicably, Shatner dropped the Folk scene like a hot tamale when Henry Cabot Lodge ran for Vice-President.
