To get rid of the things that open when you boot (mostly gifts from programs that you've downloaded) hit "START", then "RUN", and type "msconfig", and hit "OK." When the SYSTEM CONFIGURATION window opens, hit the tab that says STARTUP. Uncheck anything you don't want to open when the PC starts...make sure you know what it is when you do. When you're done, hit OK, and then restart.
