I've finished my patio!

Once upon a time, someone who owned our house thought it would be fun to put in a patio. So they did.... completely covering the damp course and blocking several air vents into the cellar/underfloor space.

Since we had the back of the house underpinned (an incident with a broken foul drain and some dropped foundations), there was a nasty step up from the kitchen door to the garden.

The following year my dad died and the time I took off work (not to mention my inheritance being some 50 plants) meant I could do something about the garden.

It was totally redesigned, with raised beds and a same level path from the back door to the other end of the garden. This meant that the rest of the patio had to be dug up and removed to avoid a nasty step, and to give us more space to sit.


Well, after 5 and more years of negotiating around a spoil heap of earth, rubble and rubbish, I've cleared all but the last buckets full!

I've laid paving, bricks and concrete, built a pond, shifted countless bags of rubble and rubbish, made an archway, mended fences, planted, re-planted, nurtured and igored and finally, today, I laid the penultimate bag of concrete.

As of tomorrow when it's set properly, I'll be able to put the bench out and bask in the sunshine and still have room to walk down the path!

I'm a happy bunny!
