Lonnie Johnson's version was a revival--the original hit was by Horace Heidt and his Orchestra December of 1939. Johnson's version seems to have been a bigger hit than the original, he made it to Number One on the R&B charts, and made the Top 2O on the Pop Charts in June of 1948. Heidt was the singer.Music by Sam Coslow(My Old Flame, Song of the South, Cocktails for Two) and Lyrics by Will Grosz(Harbor Lights, Isle of Capri, Along the Sante Fe Trail).

Heidt's popular "sweet bands" featured Alvino Rey, who designed the first steel console guitar and played it on many of their hits.
