The reason I ask this is that I had a girlfriend (for about 3 years) who became vitriollically hostile to Bob Dylan because she got the idea that I liked him better than I did her. The time came when she was correct in that assumption, actually. I did get to like Bob a lot better than her after awhile, for a variety of reasons (lying, mind-games, infidelity, drunkenness, etc...hers, I mean.).

She used to launch into tirades about me and Bob Dylan saying all kinds of obscene things about what intimate acts she supposed I was longing to do with him! (I won't repeat the language. It was extremely vulgar.)

My response to this was that she "failed to comprehend the nature of my interest in Bob Dylan". She was not amused by that, and would launch into further crude remarks regarding the hypothetical intimate private life of me and Bob.

God it was tiresome...but kind of funny, in retrospect.

In all fairness, Bob has not had the opportunity to do the sort of rotten, scummy things to me that this particular girlfriend did, so my prejudice in his favour may be a bit arbitrary, but...

Anyway, the last thing I recall saying to her about it was: "He wasn't born to make YOU happy!"

A mercifully short time later we parted company, and I am still enjoying listening to Bob as much as ever. Tough beans, Mary!

Anybody else experience this sort of domestic stress over their favourite musical performer?
