Fire fighters in Melbourne have rescued two women stuck up to their belly buttons in mud.
The women were walking back to their car after leaving a friend's house in Gladstone Park earlier today, when as they walked across a nature strip, they sunk into the soft ground.
It is believed there had recently been maintenance works by the local water suppliers in the area.
Commander Frank Bersanko from the Metropolitan Fire Brigade says fire fighters used a ladder across the footpath to pull the women to safety.
"One of the women had a new pair of shoes on, but they're still stuck in the mud, but she's happy she's alive .. and both women were washed down by the fire fighters .. and pretty happy to be alive."
