Thread Name: Folk songs at Melbourne Town Hall
Subject: RE: Folk songs at Melbourne Town Hall
G'day alinact,

One or other of those Discurio releases may well be the one that Mal Denny is seeking. I would be interested to get details of them as well (PM to me - if not really Mudcat material) to update a bit of a database of early folk recordings in Australia.

Mal (and G'day Sandra): There are quite a few good CDs appearing at present - some new releases by interesting new voices on the Australian folk scene (such as Us Not Them ... Chloe & Jason Roweth) ... some old material gathered up into CD compilations (like the National Library releases Sandra mentions)... some established performers who are still around and doing both old and new songs (Dave de Hugard's new CD is very nice ... I have sent copies to a few of my cyber-friends on Mudcat - it's one of the few CDs I can unreservedly send to overseas friends! Anyway, I see that Rob Willis was got that one to you.) Phyl Lobl (neƩ Vinnicombe) has a CD retrospective, going right back to an EP from the '60s ... as well as another CD of her later material.

I have been meaning to respond to your request for suggestions ... but waiting until I can sort through piles of unclassified CDs. I get a lot of CDs ... buying them / review copies / direct gifts from singer friends ... and I am currently working out how to store / sort / classify / catalogue them more effectively. The main problem is devising / building a more efficient and flexible storage system. (All commercial systems suffer from the delusion that you have a static collection that never needs resorting!) I have to do a sort tonight to work out which CDs are next to be reviewed ... so I might suggest a few ... perhaps by PM, as it might be taking up space unecessarily in the main forum.

Regards,

Bob Bolton
