I don't recall it being in UK record charts, but I have heard it 0n various ocasions over the years, played on a semi regular basis by individual Disk Jockeys on Radio 2 (and possibly John Peel on Radio 1?).
I had for a long time wondered where it came from (and WHY?). Yuo have answered some of my questions.

p.s. Just did a web search, and people seem to all credit the song to Guy Marks.
For whoever asked about biographical information - Try Here?. I am assuming the Actor Guy Marks is the same person who recorded the song. As the roles are often in comedy shows this seems likely.
