I see lots of references to Amor as the god of love in French, Portugese, Spanish and other languages. But, much as it pains me to say it, I also found this reference on a mythology site:
Cupid was the god of love in Roman mythology. The name Cupid is a variation on Cupido ("desire"), and this god was also known by the name Amor ("love").
Arrgghhh!
I hate "aper," too!! And, it really bugs me when they use famous names within a cluster so that if you don't know at least one or two, that's it!
