Guest 2, I think it's a bit harsh to accuse me of veering towards originality at the expense of facts. In my case I was relying on what was said. In your case you've rushed to defend a quote you fabricated from thin air.

Just for the record, the words that cost Lott his job went like this: "When Strom Thurmond ran for president, we voted for him. And if the rest of the country had followed our lead, we wouldn't have had all these problems over all these years."

It is a matter of record that Thurmond's presidential campaign was based on a segregationist manifesto (a position I think he moved away from). So in what sense were Lott's remarks not racist, but merely "playful"? Or does it depend on what colour you are?
